“A Court of Frost and Starlight” is a short book by Sarah J. Maas, part of the well-liked “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series. It shows what happens to the favorite characters after a big war and gives us a look into their relationships and problems in a world that’s trying to heal from the fighting.

Book Summary

In the Night Court, it’s winter, and Feyre wakes up to snowfall. Rhysand is not there because he’s busy with war allies discussing trade. This isn’t unusual as Rhys often meets with allies.

Winter Solstice is approaching, and it brings back memories of last year when Feyre was in the Spring Court with Tamlin and Rhys saved her.

Rhys is dealing with a dispute between Cassian and Devlon about letting female Illyrians train in war-camps. They settle on allowing them 90 minutes to train and having males help with female tasks. Another issue arises as some believe their males were placed in dangerous positions in a battle. Cassian and Rhys need to address this.

In Velaris, Feyre explores the damaged Rainbow and meets a faerie named Ressina who informs her about a family that escaped a destroyed house, thanking Feyre for saving them during the war.

Feyre and Mor shop for gifts and discuss visiting the Hewn City with Rhys as a Solstice tradition.

They arrive at the Hewn City, where Mor’s father and Eris are present. Eris discusses expanding the Autumn Court’s territory, which raises concerns. Rhys learns that Tamlin guards the borders to the Mortal Lands.

Rhys’s spymaster, Azriel, tells him about discontent in the Illyrian war-camps, though it’s not widespread.

Rhys visits the Spring Court and finds it deserted except for Tamlin, who refuses Rhys’s offer of assistance. Rhys becomes upset with Tamlin.

Instead of attacking Rhys, Tamlin asks him to leave. Rhys confides in Feyre, realizing he hasn’t gotten her a gift yet.

Cassian helps Feyre decorate, and everyone gathers for dinner. Elain mentions Nesta, who doesn’t want to join any celebrations.

During dinner, Elain asks Amren about returning to being human, which Amren dismisses. Azriel defends Elain, and the mood improves.

Feyre and Rhys find Nesta at a pub, inviting her to join the celebration. Nesta refuses, mentioning Feyre’s rent.

Feyre asks Amren about Nesta, and Amren reveals they’re close but won’t disclose Nesta’s issues. Feyre asks Amren to tell Nesta they want her to celebrate.

On the Winter Solstice, Rhys surprises Feyre with gifts. Rhys is taken away for a Solstice tradition with Cassian and Azriel.

Lucien arrives, and Feyre invites him to live with them, but he declines. They argue, and Lucien leaves.

Feyre learns Elain doesn’t want anyone around and respects her wishes. Mor takes Feyre to a snowball fight tradition.

After the snowball fight, they make a sauna. The celebration includes a birthday cake, dinner, and gift exchange.

Nesta arrives late, and they exchange gifts. Nesta takes the check Feyre offers and leaves, followed by Cassian.

Cassian tries to mend their relationship but fails. Nesta walks away, and Cassian throws his gift into the river.

Cassian returns home, and Feyre prepares for bed. Rhys takes her to a cabin and changes her tattoo. Feyre expresses her desire to have a child. Rhys reveals he bought a house with a room for a baby.

Rhys visits Tamlin, and they discuss forgiveness and the past. Rhys leaves the Spring Court after preparing food for Tamlin.

This book helps you come down from the mass of emotional mess the third book leaves behind. Some things are answered but mostly you get a bit more of everyone you love and the next steps in there lives

I love reading these books because the emotions I feel while reading are immaculate. I laughed, I cried, I wished, I hoped, and I healed. This has been like a front row seat to such a beautiful storyline

Pleasant way to finish the series. Not much meat to the story. Not sure it was necessary however it was a final chance to hear of the characters.

The fourth book wasn't my favorite, but the way they packaged and delivered was amazing.I usually see people saying how the printing was awful but I had no bad experience.

If your looking for a series to get lost in this one is it.This books are a bit "spicy" if you know what I mean so there not for little eyes.Sarah J Mass takes you on an adventure. She literally paints a scene and throws you into her books and you can feel everything as if your there with these characters.

Until I encountered this. Sadly, Sarah this wasn't it madam. I have never taken so long to read something and HATE the fact I bothered with an audiobook for this. She could have kept this one in the vault to never be released but this was exhausting. I'm pretty sure this will be my only 1 star for SJM but what a let down it had to be said.

I had such a good time reading this book. While some may find it mundane, I think it was helpful to see how relationships played out with a lack of imminent danger. I think this book is a good completion of Feyre and Rhys' character arc and all in all, am leaving this book feeling very warm.

This was a strange book in the series. I didn't dislike it but I feel like it didn't tie up as many stories as it could have

The storyline of this book is rather week. It feels like it describes a lull. There is very little progress to the overall plot of the series and nothing really changes. I wanted to read it because I plan to finish the series but if the next book is as boring as this one I may not.

3 Stars for me! I really liked this book, it was a good kind of filler book. I enjoyed the characters and story. It made me look forward to the continuation of this series!!

This is a very short chance to see through the eyes of various players and experience tiny bits of what goes on in the ... after.

This feels like it was not meant to be part of the series originally. It's kind of like a lot of backstory, a Christmas special if you so will. Nothing really happens in the plot, just lots of character development. Maybe Sarah needed to have this space to provide some extra info and pass some time in the story without making one of the other parts too long. I'm not sure but it felt off. It's also written from several character's perspectives so it's different than the previous parts in this too. I still enjoyed it but by far not as much as the rest of the series.

I realize some people think this one was a waste of time between two fantastic novels, but look. It's a cozy little Christmas special to relieve some of the stress from all that has happened. I really loved that. Just enjoy it and prepare for what's next.

I'm honestly mad I spent money on this instead of waiting for it to be available at the library. I was already kind of over the series, but this one just solidified it. The whole series reads like furry fanfic (mate, male/female instead of man/woman, growl/purr/snarl, showing teeth, etc. etc.), which was super cringe and distracting, and all of the characters have the emotional maturity of a teenager. But this book specifically was entirely about shopping and getting drunk, and it is less than 1/3 the length of the previous book. What is the point of it? It is basically Twilight in another form.

This was a quick little addition to the ACOTAR series. Felt like a Christmas episode of a TV sitcom, checking in on our favorite characters and how they are adjusting after the war with Hybern.

Quality of the actual phyiscal book is fine, nothing wrong there. While I LOVE this series, this was an odd book. Felt very much like a Christmas special of a drama tv show—out of place a bit and not necessary for the plot? I don't know why it was released as its own book and not as part of book 3 or book 5.

I know this is just a cute little respite after the intensity of the 3rd book but it was kind of boring. I still enjoyed it and am grateful it was a quick read.

Prior to this book, they have all been five stars. I gave this one a two star because it was very hard to read with the constant switch of POV and characters. Overall, I think this book is a good filler for what's to happen next in the last book. However, I do feel that it could've been placed in Book 3, or at the beginning of book 4. It was nice to see the other characters past and how they feel the future is going to go.

This little novella was such a sweet read, especially if you read it around Christmas/ winter solstice time (since that is when the novella takes place mainly). I love how we get to see more of Feyre's story outside of the battlefield and how she was adjusting to daily life among the fe in Velaris. I loved seeing Rhysand and Feyre put the pieces of themselves together after the battle. I enjoy that we start to get more of Nesta and Cassian in this Novella as well. Easy 4.5 stars for me.

I really hated reading in all the characters POV. I'm not sure if I'll read the last book in this series because it's in the Nesta's POV and to be honest I couldn't stand her from the first book in this series.

Most authors would've ended the story with the great battle in book three. I'm glad she knew how important it is to readers to know the rest of the story after the great battle.

Ok, I loved this little peak into everyday life for our favorite characters. It was nice to not have such doom and gloom on their doorstep, but to simply be. Rhys, Feyre, and Cassian continue to my favorite characters in the series. The way Maass writes Rhys and Feyre's relationship is nothing short of beauty.

I love this little novella. It's short, sweet and honors the ACOTAR stories perfectly. It's a good bit of levity between the heaviness of the previous book and what comes next.

There really wasn't much as far as vital information to the story line. I originally skipped it but decided to go back and regret it 🤣 everything in this book is basically summarized in the next book in less than a chapter so don't waste your 4ish hours

Being the shortest book in the series I didn't know what to expect. And while, I will admit, it was slower the storyline was good nonetheless! Sarah J Maas, you can do no wrong!
